3.7. Replacement of impellent oil and oil filter

General information

Long contact of skin to the fulfilled impellent oil is quite dangerous. Use protective cream and put on gloves during carrying out this procedure. The clothes which have become impregnated with oil replace immediately.

Regular and frequent replacement of impellent oil is the main preventive procedure of the service, to the available amateur mechanic. Eventually oil is subject to a razzhizheniye and pollution that conducts to premature wear of the engine.

Impellent oil can be in case of need extorted by means of a special probe (it is usually possible to take in temporary use at filling stations) through directing tube measuring щупа.

By no means on merge the fulfilled oil in the sewerage!

Expediently after performance of replacement of oil to fix on the engine a label with the indication of brand of the filled-in oil and date of performance of procedure.

Use of oils of various types adversely affects operation of the engine. Mixing of oils of various brands is not allowed at all also. In some situations (in particular, in inter-season period) mixing of impellent oils of various viscosity, under condition of their coincidence on type and brand is allowed.

Necessary tool

  • Viewing the hole/platform/hydrolift (if oil is not pumped out at the top);
  • Face head for an otvorachivaniye of a drain stopper;
  • Special nozzle for an otvorachivaniye of a cover of the filter (103 589 02 09 00);
  • Drain capacity (if oil is not sucked away through directing tube measuring щупа) by volume not less than 6 l.

Necessary spare parts and expendables:

  • Aluminum or copper sealing washer for a drain stopper (if oil is not pumped out at the top), - are sometimes delivered together with the replaceable filter;
  • Replaceable cartridge of a filtering element;
  • Necessary amount of the impellent oil, met with Mercedes-Benz company approval.

Plums of impellent oil


  1. Warm up the engine to normal working temperature.
  2. To Poddomkratta the car also establish it horizontally on props.
  3. Get under the case pallet capacity for collecting the fulfilled oil.
  1. Turn out from the case pallet a drain stopper (see сопр. an illustration and) and completely merge oil, - if the drain stopper is located not in the bottom point of the pallet of a case of the engine, it is necessary to use the special device for oil pumping out (see сопр. illustration b).

If in the fulfilled oil there is at a large number a metal shaving and wear products, it indicates existence задиров, for example, in bearings of a cranked shaft and shatunny bearings. For an exception of damages after the carried-out repair it is necessary to clear oil channels and hoses carefully. It is in addition necessary, if is available, to replace an oil radiator.

  1. Wait, when oil will stop to follow through a drain opening, then screw into place a stopper, previously having replaced its sealing washer, - track, that the stopper was tightened with demanded effort, - excessively hard tightening of a drain stopper is interfaced to risk of damage of tightness of its landing.
  2. Lower the car on wheels.

Replacement of the oil filter

Petrol models


  1. Extraction of a working element of the oil filter (petrol models).

  1. The cover of the cassette oil filter is located from above on the engine, in the left forward corner of the last (see an illustration the Impellent compartment of petrol models (on G55 AMG example)).
  2. By means of a special nozzle (103 589 02 09 00) release a carving cover (2) casings (5) oil filters and take it assembled with a working element (4).
  3. In the short blows put on the central core, beat out a working element from a cover in the prepared drain capacity.
  4. Replace a sealing ring (3) covers (2).
  5. Fill in a casing (5) assemblies a replaceable working element (4), then plant into place a cover and tighten it by means of a special nozzle (see paragraph 3).

Diesel models

  1. The order of performance of procedure is similar described above for petrol engines. On the models equipped with the engine of a series 612, for the purpose of ensuring access to the filter it is necessary to dismantle previously the panel of furnish of a head air purifier cylinders/assembly.

Filling of fresh impellent oil

At the first start of a turbodiesel after performance of replacement of oil it is necessary to watch that the engine at first worked on single turns, the control lamp of pressure of oil will not go out yet. The increase in turns of the engine at a burning control lamp is interfaced to risk of failure of a turbokompressor!


  1. Filling of oil is made through the special, jellied mouth equipped with a cover in a cover of a head of cylinders (see illustrations the Impellent compartment of petrol models (on G55 AMG example), the Impellent compartment of the diesel G270 CDI models and the Impellent compartment of the diesel G400 CDI models).
  2. At replacement of oil apply new oil of the same type and, whenever possible, the same brand, as merged of the engine. For the purpose of minimization of a razbryzgivaniye use a funnel. At each replacement of oil attach to the engine the plate with the indication of type and brand of the filled-in oil, and also date of performance of replacement.
  3. At the first stage fill in in the engine approximately on 0.5 l of oil less, than it is specified in Specifications, then warm up the engine and, some minutes later, check level, - in case of need, make the corresponding adjustment, having finished level to a mark the MOVE on an edge measuring щупа.

Surplus of oil should be pumped out from the engine in order to avoid risk of damage of sealing elements of the engine and failure of the catalytic converter.

  1. After a trial trip check tightness of landing of a drain stopper and a cover of the oil filter.
  2. About 2 minutes later after an engine stop once again check oil level, in case of need make the corresponding adjustment.
