7.4.2. The storage battery - the general information, recommendations about service

The 12-voltny battery established on the car consists from six banok in which positive and negative plates (ламели), shipped in solution of sulfuric acid are placed. The main task of the battery is production of the current necessary for implementation of start of the engine, ignition/activation of candles of an incandescence and for lighting, and also for providing with a food of other onboard or auxiliary consumers of the electric power.

Absolute return of the battery takes place at ambient temperature 27°С, at - 18°С efficiency of return falls to 40 % and implementation of start of the engine needs in two with small time more energy.

The starting capacity (starting current) shows ability of the accumulator to start the car in the conditions of very cold weather. It shows a current in amperes which gives the accumulator within 30 seconds at - 18°С without power failure below 7.2 volts (the minimum level demanded for reliable start). The this indicator, the more starting capacity of the accumulator is higher.

The reserve capacity shows time in minutes during which the accumulator gives a current of 25 Amperes at 27°С, i.e. time during which the accumulator ensures functioning of all auxiliary devices in the car at night and in the conditions of bad weather at the faulty generator.

In winter conditions, at temperatures below - 18°С efficiency of additional charge of the battery decreases in view of increase of internal resistance. At short trips in the winter the energy spent by the battery for start of the engine, does not manage to be restored and the battery begins works very hard, being gradually discharged and, eventually, fails is irreversible.

In summer months at long trips the engine strongly heats up, and often happens that it is difficult for starting anew. Not less energy is sometimes spent for such "hot" starts the battery, than in frosty weather demand. Told in a special measure treats vysokokompressionny engines with large working volume of cylinders, and also to equipped with air central air to models.

  1. Connect to the regular battery the auxiliary accumulator.

  1. At models of the corresponding complete set (ET2 code) activate a service mode of system of an emergency call of TELE AID (see. Section Activation/deactivation of a service mode of system of an emergency call of TELE AID).
  2. On models of the corresponding complete set (FG2 code) remove a chashkoderzhatel (And).
  3. Dismantle an access cover (In) in a back foot well.
  4. Disconnect a negative wire from the battery (G1) a negative wire (2).
  5. Connection is made upside-down. Do not forget to make deactivation of a service mode of TELE AID system.

Refusal of use of the auxiliary accumulator is interfaced to need of introduction of a security code of activation of a radio receiver!

Battery removal


  1. Disconnect from the battery a negative wire (see above).
  2. Remove a clamping level.
  3. Disconnect from the battery a positive wire.
  4. Take the battery from an adjusting niche.
  5. Installation is made upside-down.

Acquisition of the new storage battery

Told points to importance of correctness of a choice of the storage battery taking into account parameters of the engine and a vehicle complete set above.

The first, on what it is necessary to pay attention upon purchase of the new storage battery, are its performance data. Such characteristics - three. The first: RATED TARGET VOLTAGE which has identical value (12 In) for all applied on cars that practically excludes probability of a mistake.

Upon purchase it is desirable to check the storage battery a loading fork.

The second: The CAPACITY measured in Ampere/hours (And/h) and, roughly speaking, defining a stock of the electric power containing in the battery. On a choice of size of this parameter depends, as long the battery is capable to provide possibility of a provorachivaniye of the engine with a starter, is more exact - how many it is possible to make attempts of start of the engine. The price of the storage battery is almost directly proportional to its capacity. And third characteristic: The STARTING CURRENT measured in Amperes (And), i.e. a current submitted on a starter at start of the engine. The size of a starting current on batteries can be specified on four different standards: GOST (for domestic accumulators), EN (a standard of Uniform Europe), SAE (the American standard) and DIN (Germany). The last, German standard, is closest to our state standard specification and on the majority of batteries of the European production is put down "by default" i.e. when the system of a standard is not specified. The starting current is higher, the big turns are developed by a starter and to those it is capable to transfer a bigger torque to an engine flywheel.

In an ideal, the acquired replaceable battery on the performance data should correspond completely to the requirements specified in the maintenance instruction of the car, at which observance term of its service to the maximum. Hardly it is possible to consider acquisition of the battery of smaller capacity as good economy of money as it will serve much less and, besides, can lead to the unpleasant efforts connected with start of the engine in a winter season. It is not necessary to get the battery with excessively big starting current, - such hobby is interfaced to risk of failure of a starter. If the standard battery does not provide a due provorachivaniye of the engine, it will be more correct to make for a start replacement of impellent oil, - that most likely will lead to automatic elimination of a problem.

Lately the market of the country is overflowed with the poor-quality goods and fakes. The storage battery also are not an exception. There are some signs on which it is possible with sufficient degree of probability to distinguish the original from a fake. The first and, perhaps, main thing: on the case of the battery the country manufacturer and manufacturing plant should be surely specified, it is better, if with the address. The second: manufacturing date should be specified that special value has for batteries of tight (unattended) type. The delivery set surely should include technical data sheet while existence of the instruction is not strictly obligatory that is connected with that in the West storage batteries practically do not arrive in retail, and their installation on the car usually is carried out by specialists of car-care center. The third: high-quality batteries differ good appearance. The case should have equal edges, to be equipped with reliable jams and the smooth, covered protective caps polar plugs which quite often become covered by a layer of special anticorrosive greasing.

Battery charging

The charging of the failed battery should be made according to instructions of manufacturers of the charger.

Procedures of base programming

After restoration of an onboard food it is necessary to make listed below procedure of base programming.


  1. Include ignition, then serially activate drives of window regulators of lateral glasses, completely lifting the last and holding keys of the corresponding switches pressed during about 1 more second. Switch off ignition.
  2. At shutdown of giving of an onboard food the module of management of ESP is switched in emergency operation that EL is accompanied by a conclusion to the screen of the multipurpose display of the message «. STAB. PROGRAM GO TO GARAGE». For return of ESP system to an operating mode it is necessary to activate the sensor of an angle of rotation of a steering wheel: start the engine on single turns, then turn a steering wheel from an emphasis against the stop, having in summary returned it to neutral situation, - the message should disappear from the screen. Switch off ignition.
  3. Include ignition and shift an electrodriving forward seat forward against the stop, - continue to hold the corresponding switch pressed during about 1 more second. Repeat the same procedure with a head restraint, having lifted the last in extreme top situation. Switch off ignition.
