3.5. Check of levels of liquids, control of leaks

Below the order of the procedure, made on a monthly basis is described. The description of checks of levels of other liquids can be found further in the appropriate sections devoted to concrete procedures of service. Regardless of the intervals stipulated by the Schedule, try not to disregard the emergence facts потеков liquids under cars, - similar signs indicate existence of malfunctions subject to immediate elimination.

At check of level of any working liquid the car should settle down strictly horizontally!

Liquids are the integral component of systems of greasing, cooling, braking and washing of glasses. In view of a normal expenditure and a tendency to pollution in use the car, it is necessary to make periodically checks of conditions/levels and replacement of working liquids, - familiarize with requirements of Specifications to types of applied structures and volumes of filling of the relevant systems.

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. At an appreciable zamaslivaniye of the power unit and a big consumption of oil attentively examine places of the most probable development of leaks:
  • Sealing element of a cover of a jellied mouth of impellent oil, - check on existence of cracks and other mechanical damages;
  • Components of system of ventilation of a case (in particular, - the ventilating hose going from a cover of a head of cylinders to an inlet air line);
  • Cover laying (ек) heads of cylinders;
  • Head laying (ok) cylinders;
  • Sealing element of a drain stopper of the pallet of a case of the engine;
  • Laying of the oil filter, - attentively study a place of a prileganiye of the filter to a landing flange;
  • Laying of the pallet of a case;
  • Forward and back epiploons of a cranked shaft.
  1. Wrap the generator in polyethylene, spray the engine a usual cold cleaner, - then, through short time, - wash out the unit on a car wash.
  2. Joints of interfaced surfaces and sealing elements of the power unit powder outside with lime or talc.
  3. Check oil level, in case of need make the corresponding adjustment (see below).
  4. During short (about 30 km) trips (it is desirable on the high-speed route) warm up the engine to normal working temperature, - hot oil differs the increased fluidity and easier filters through thinnesses.
  5. Park the car in a safe place and, highlighting itself a lamp, investigate the engine for the purpose of localization of sources of leakages of oil. Eliminate the reasons of development of leaks.

Level check

The maximum admissible consumption of impellent oil makes 1L/1000 km, the real consumption level of oil depends on a driving manner, - frequent movement with high turns of the engine conducts to increase in a consumption of oil.


 PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Function of control of level of impellent oil is put in the Section «Standard indication» of the main menu of the board computer (address to the operation manual on the car, - ask in shops of automobile literature).
  2. Physical check of level of oil is made by means of measuring щупа, passed in directing tube and lowered in the engine to the bottom point of the pallet of its case (see illustrations the Impellent compartment of petrol models (on G55 AMG example), the Impellent compartment of the diesel G270 CDI models and the Impellent compartment of the diesel G400 CDI models). Check of level of oil should be made before the trip first in the present day, or about 5 minutes later after an engine stop. If to execute check directly after engine switching off, its results will adequately not reflect a situation as the part of oil will appear distributed on internal galleries and engine components.

To lift level from the bottom mark in an edge щупа to top about 2 l of oil are required.

  1. Level lowering out of limits of the bottom border of an admissible range conducts to development of oil starvation of the engine and the last fraught with serious mechanical damages. Try not to pour also oil above the top mark as it can lead to a pelting of spark plugs or failure of epiploons of the power unit as a result of excessive increase of pressure.
  2. To fill in oil in the engine it is necessary to remove a carving cover of a jellied mouth (see illustrations the Impellent compartment of petrol models (on G55 AMG example), the Impellent compartment of the diesel G270 CDI models and the Impellent compartment of the diesel G400 CDI models).   1. Check of level of engine oil is important preventive procedure of service of the engine. Continuous decrease in level testifies to existence of leakages of oil as a result of failure of epiploons, damage of sealing laying, wear of piston rings or directing plugs of valves. If oil on color or a consistence reminds milk, or at it there are water drops, it speaks about possible damage of laying of a head of cylinders, or formation of cracks to a head body (ok) or the block. Remember that antifreeze is extremely toxic liquid and its hit in an organism even in small amounts is fraught with the most serious consequences, up to a lethal outcome. Never leave antifreeze being stored in leaky closed container, immediately collect cooling liquid spilled on a floor. Remember that the sweetish smell of antifreeze can draw to itself attention of children and animals. About ways utilization of the fulfilled cooling liquid consult with local authorities, - in many regions of the world special points on different reception of working off are equipped. At all do not merge old cooling liquid in the sewerage and on the earth!

Recently nontoxical grades of antifreeze are developed, nevertheless, they also should to be utilized in the organized order.

  1. All cars considered in this Management, are equipped with system of cooling of the compensatory type, working at superfluous pressure. The plastic broad tank is located on the right in an impellent compartment and connected by hoses to a radiator and a water shirt of the power unit (see an illustration the Impellent compartment of petrol models (on G55 AMG example)). In process of an engine warming up in the course of its work extending cooling liquid fills a tank. When cooling engine cooling liquid automatically arrives back in cooling system that provides maintenance of constant value of its level.
  1. Check of level of cooling liquid in the tank should be made regularly, at strictly horizontal position of the car and the switched-off engine. In a cold condition level of cooling liquid should reach a control mark in a wall / in a broad tank, depending on execution option. After an engine warming up level of cooling liquid rises still approximately on 1.0 - 1.5 see. In case of need make the corresponding adjustment, - add only liquid of demanded structure (see. Having made on the car a short trip, once again measure level of cooling liquid, - insignificant adjustment can be made by a way of a dolivaniye of the distilled water, however, it is necessary to remember that frequent additions of water lead to an antifreeze razzhizheniye therefore it is more reasonable to add always in system a mix of demanded structure.
  2. Regularly arising need for correction of level of cooling liquid testify to existence of its leaks (external or internal), - attentively study an external condition of a radiator, connecting hoses, covers of a jellied mouth, drain jams and the water pump (see. The section Check of functioning of system of cooling and frost resistance of cooling liquid, liquid replacement). If to reveal a source of leak it is not possible, check tightness of landing of covers of a broad tank and a radiator in conditions HUNDRED.
  3. Removal of covers of components of system of cooling should be made after complete cooling of the engine. Wrap up a cover rags and unscrew it to the first point of easing of resistance, - if thus from under a cover steam or cooling liquid starts to escape, let's to the engine cool down a little more, and only then finally uncover.

Brake liquid

At service of a hydraulic path of brake system observe extreme care. Do not allow hit of brake liquid in eyes, a mouth and on the painted surfaces of the car! Remember that brake liquid is highly hygroscopic, i.e. possesses property of absorption of moisture containing in air, - at all do not add in brake system hydraulic liquid, long time stored in leaky closed container! Use only the recommended types of brake liquid, - mixing of various types of liquid can lead to refusal of brake system!

  1. The main cylinder of brake (GTTs) of system equipped with the tank is established in a back left corner of an impellent compartment. About falling of level of brake liquid of the driver prevents operation built in a combination of devices of a control lamp (see.   1. Level of brake liquid is checked visually and should be between «MAX» and «MIN» marks put on translucent walls of the GTTs tank. In case of need make the corresponding adjustment, having added demanded amount of fresh liquid through a tank mouth, - before an otvorachivaniye of a cover wipe the tank outside in order to avoid hit to the hydraulic highway of dirt.

It is not necessary to fill in excessive amount of liquid in the tank.

  1. At the removed cover check liquid and GTTs tank walls on existence of signs of pollution. In case of identification of presence of particles of a rust, dirt or water drops, it is necessary to replace liquid with subsequent "pumping" of brake system (see. Head Brake and auxiliary systems).
  2. Having finished adjustment/replacement, track flatness of landing and reliability of a tightening of a cover of the tank.
  3. Gradual lowering of level of liquid in the GTTs tank is connected with wear of brake shoes. Need for addition of liquid is absent, if its level does not fall below «MIN» mark, - in case of need check a condition of frictional overlays of blocks of brake mechanisms, - replacement of blocks will lead to automatic alignment of level.
  4. If need for correction of level of brake liquid arises regularly, it is necessary to check carefully immediately a hydraulic path of brake system on existence of signs of development of leaks, - attentively survey a condition of supports / wheel cylinders, GTTs, brake tubes, hoses and their shtutserny connections, (see. Sections Check of brake system and Check of a condition and replacement of hoses of an impellent compartment, localization of leaks).
  5. When lowering level of liquid in the GTTs tank below «MIN» mark the brake system should be "pumped over" (see. Head Brake and auxiliary systems).

Liquid of system of hydrostrengthening of a wheel (GUR)

If liquid level in the GUR tank fell below a zone corresponding to the current temperature range, the condition of the hydrostrengthened steering mechanism is necessary for checking on firm HUNDRED Mercedes-Benzs, - idle time of correction of level in this case will be insufficiently.

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Check of level of ATF is most correct for making at heated-up the engine and transmission, - make on the car short (about 15 km) a trip.
  2. Park the car on an equal horizontal surface, cock the parking brake. For reliable fixing of the car prop up wheels protivootkatny boots.
  3. Start the engine on single turns. Squeeze out a pedal of a foot brake and accurately switch the selector lever from the situation "R" in situation "D", then return back. Make sure of lack of signs of development of external leakages of ATF.
  4. Shchup of measurement of level of liquid is located in a back part of transmission. Before taking щуп, carefully wipe adjoining to a case surface, - dirt hit in transmission is inadmissible.
  5. Having hooked a suitable screw-driver, take a blocking clamp (the red uvula of a clamp breaks off, and the remained fragment is pushed out from a cover down) and uncover (see an illustration above).
  6. Start the engine and, holding the car motionlessly foot brake, consistently translate the selector lever through all working ranges, in summary again having returned it to the situation "R".
  7. Previously having carefully wiped, fill measuring щуп against the stop in a jellied mouth of transmission. Take щуп and by length of the moistened site of its edge determine ATF level in a transmission case, at the cold unit level should be between marks of min and max bottom (25°С) scales щупа, at the hot - between identical labels top (80 °) scales (see an illustration above).
  8. During a short trip warm up transmission to normal working temperature, wait about 2 minutes and once again repeat check of level of liquid at the working engine. If level of ATF is excessively high, excess of liquid should be pumped out from AT case without fail, - level excess, no less than the lack of ATF can lead to a transmission exit out of operation.
  9. Establish into place a cover of a jellied mouth and block it a new blocking clamp (see an illustration above).
  10. Attentively examine AT case on existence of signs of development of leaks, in case of need make necessary corrections.

Lubricant liquid of a transfer case

Within performance of procedures planned THAT control of level of oil in a transfer case is not made.

  1. Make sure of horizontal position of installation of the car. Wipe a surface of a case of a transfer case round a stopper of a jellied/control opening (see сопр. an illustration - Location of a stopper of a jellied/control opening on a case of a transfer case of a series 750.65).
  1. Turn out a stopper and, having inserted into an opening a finger, check oil level in a case, - it should reach exactly the bottom cut of an opening. In case of need make the corresponding adjustment.

Liquid of washing of glasses/lenses of headlights

The concentrate of stekloomyvayushchy means is easily combustible! At the address with a concentrate of stekloomyvayushchy means application of fire, an open flame and smoking are forbidden.

  1. The tank of liquid of washing of glasses is established in the right back corner of an impellent compartment, behind a broad tank of system of cooling and is equipped with a jellied mouth with a cover of bayonetny type (see сопр. an illustration - Location of the tank of liquid of washing of glasses/lenses of headlights in an impellent compartment (for all models)). Capacity of the tank makes about 7.5 l (see. Specifications).
  1. About falling of level of liquid of the driver prevents operation built in a combination of devices of a control lamp, - the sensor switch of a control lamp is built in in the top part of the tank of washing liquid.
  2. In areas with a temperate climate it is possible to fill system with usual water, but it is recommended to add in means water for washing of glasses (the summer concentrate of MV has S marking). The tank should be filled no more than on two thirds that there was a free space on a case of expansion of water when freezing. In areas with cold climatic conditions it is necessary to use a special concentrate for washing of glasses (W marking), reducing a freezing point of liquid which can be got in any shop of automobile accessories. Usually it is on sale in the concentrated or ready look. Concentrate mixing with water should be made strictly according to the instruction of the producer of means stated on packing.

At all do not use for washing of glasses antifreeze of system of the cooling, capable at hit on body panels to damage a paint and varnish covering!
